Botanical Gardens!

After much talk about going - we finally found a day for nature. The gardens for anyone who doesn't know are enormous and sprawl out around the circular quay of Sydney. They are truly beautiful and would love to say that we spent all day wandering around them, but me and kate were lazy and took the little train around it with a tour guide telling us about history of the place and which flower and tree was which!! Lots of fruit bats in the trees which kate wasn't too happy about!! All in all - a very cultural experience!! (there's got to be at least one!!)

Watson's Bay

Had heard some good things about a beautiful area called Watson's Bay which is where the rich people live in sydney. So caught the bus round the coast for about and hour and went to this exclusive area. We decided to go the beach called 'Camp Cove' as me and kate nearly wet ourselves at the name. It was a lovely beach and we got nice and brown!! Had fish and chips at the marina and watched the world go by - its a wonderful life!!

night out at side bar and scruffy's!

It was meant to be a couple of drinks at the local bar to celebrate finishing night shifts, but what happened was....... we managed to get half the hostel to come out celebrating with us!! (they don't need much encouragement to go out!). So we went to a bar called the side bar and played pool, 21's (actually finished the whole game) and listened to a guy playing a guitar and singing (sounded just like gavin the guitar man!!). We came back to the hostel at about 1am thinking we were being very good, but got dragged out again down to scruffy murphy's and stayed out until 5am!!!! i am totally reliving my youth, but unfortunately my youth leaves me by the morning and the old hangover arrives and i feel 101yrs old!!!
Quality night out!!!!

Taronga Zoo

One of days here - we decided we should see some nature, so jumped on a ferry across to water over to the Taronga Zoo. We saw many kangaroo's - which i pointed out to kate was what she had on her pizza the other night!! They were so cute - shouldn't be food, but have to admit, it does taste nice!!

We saw some tigers, bears, monkeys, giraffes etc. But instead of putting photo's of them on our blog, i decided a picture of me and kate being twats was more appropriate!!

See more wildlife shots and interesting pictures of me and kate on our online photo album!

manly beach

This is Manly beach and where myself and kate like to while away our spare time topping up our tan's and generally oggling at the hot men in their surfer shorts!! It is also the place where i got stung by the blue bottle jellyfish!! Bloody hurt and still have a scar across my tummy to prove it!! My friend Dan did offer to pee on me, but being a family place and not really in to the whole urinating on people thing - i kindly declined and stuck with the ice they gave me!!

There is also another beach slightly further around the cove called shelly beach - thus called because there are a lot of shells on the beach - common sense lot the australians!!!

We are planning to learn how to surf here in a couple of weeks so look forward to the installments of how that goes!!!

australia day

The Australian's are a very nationalistic nation and whereas we never celebrate St George's day - the Australian's go to town for their own national pride day. It fell on a friday and everyone gets the day off. The city set up celebrations everywhere, but the main daytime parties were happening in Hyde Park. We headed over there and I can only assume there must have been about 250,000 people in this park all chilling out and listening to bands play, professional dancers do routines or dj's playing new tunes. We copped a squat under a tree and bought ourselves a corn on the cob and chilled out watching a latino band play and some professionals salsa dancing!
In the evening we were told (as were about 1000 other people) that the Australia day fireworks were to be held at the rocks - looking over the harbour bridge and opera house. So an hour before they were due to start - myself and kate and our 2 new friends (Dan and Kerry - see photo below) stood and waited for them to start. At 9pm we could hear some fireworks and they had a big screen up showing fireworks going off, but couldn't work out where they were coming from. At 9:20pm, a drunk bloke took much joy in telling us that the fireworks had been shown over in Darling harbour for Australia Day - only new year is when fireworks are done at harbour bridge!! Feeling totally stupid and a little pissed off we found a bar with a view of the opera house etc and ordered some champane and chilled out there for the rest of the night. Had a fab evening in spite of the lack of visable fireworks!!!

Neighbours night!

For anyone who knows me well - is award that i have a complete obsession with neighbours! It comes from my mum who i will blame entirely!! We found out there was a meet the neighbours night up at one of the local bars called 'coolabar'. We paid our money and headed over there one sunday night. We arrived and i became a nervous wreck. I was so excited about meeting Janae, Boyd and Toadie - it was like the mothership calling me home!!!!

After a couple of bevvies Boyd came over to us - he is only 19yrs old, but is so fit and cute. We chatted with him for a while, but meanwhile Kate had managed to get herself entered in a dancing competition. Me and Boyd went and watched Kate do her dancing thing. She ended up coming 2nd which was a joke considering the fact everyone thinks she should have come first. Then Toadie and Janae came over and we chatted about how much of a sad fan i am of neighbours!!! They were all lovely and as you can see had some photo's taken for us.

Loved it - can't wait to go to Melbourne and go to the neighbours set, go on the neighbours tour bus and go to the neighbours pub night there!!! - Its like my Mecca!!!

Bridge Climb!!

Me and Kate had been informed by many sources that the bridge climb of the Sydney harbour bridge was an absolute must for tourists. So me and Kate signed up and paid quite a substantial amount of money and hoped that it would be worth it. We had to take off our trousers and wear these grey and blue siuts - the first one the guy gave me was a touch on the small side and lets just say - i had a front and back wedgie!!!! After donning the correct sized suit - we were equipped with caps, hankerchiefs and headsets so we could hear what the chick was saying. We had a practice run of what it was like to climb some of the stairs and then get down and we were off. You are shackled to the side of the stairs so the most you could fall is about 1/2 a metre before the thing locked and you would be ok again! I'm not one to be afraid of heights, but this is proper high and you can see through the floor you're standing on all the way to the ground!! When climbing some of the stairs i had a slight panicky moment, but regained my confidence and climbed to the top. The views are unreal and as you can see from mine and Kate's photo's we had a ball!! We came down and went straight to the pub for a celebratory bevvie!! The guide we had was awesome and the trip up there was worth every penny! LOVE IT!!
